Second Goldberg Variation

It cannot have failed to come to everyone's attention that there appears to be an attack on Middle class America, and a bait and switch by those newly elected.

I open this blog for anyone who wants to discuss whether they actually think Washington can produce answers without ideology or if they are the problem.

First Goldberg Variation

Some initial ideas for getting off the oil dependency.

Impose agressive molecular sieving strategies via ZIF/MOF technology to capture CO2, CH4, N2O, and CFCs, from the atmosphere, manufacturing and energy production plants.

Capture CO2 by ZIF/MOF "sieving". Pipe CO2 to desert power plants where Bosch/Boudouard reactions abate it.

Capture CO2 by ZIF/MOF "sieving". Pipe CO2 to algae bioreactors which
absorb it and create H2 and biomass.

Sinter algae biomass to biochar, or use to produce biodiesel. Adopt the second option when CO2 is reduced to pre-1900 or -1800 levels.

Capture CH4 by ZIF/MOF "sieving". Burn it in centrally-located electricity generators where CO2/CO/unburnt HC can be collected.

Steam reform CH4 to produce H2. Develop H2 infrastructure, just like oil infrastructure was developed.

Convert to H2 economy, with possible biodiesel for trucking and train transportation interim.

Convert to H2 jet engines. Develop immediate H2/O2 sieving technology to replenish fuel in air.

Use vehicle tribrid engine that can a) burn H2, b) use compressed air, c) generate elctricity to be stored while in a or b mode.

Develop continental shelf drilling for methane clathrates/hydrates, but only after careful design of drill/capture methods.

Develop IGCC plants that are truly clean (leave no slag pools, heavy metals, dioxin, etc.), and only then burn coal.

Convert oil industry to hydrocarbon steam reformation and produce H2, using above strategies to abate CO2, CH4, N2O.

Find non-toxic alternate materials into ground to achieve "fracking" for natural gas.
